As an independent artist its very important to actively and consistently promote your music and your message to potential fans. With the popularity of websites such as FaceBook, Twitter, Reverb Nation, SoundCloud and others, it’s now easier than ever to do it yourself – saving you time and money – and putting the ball in your hands.
But whether you’re promoting your music and message on the street corner or in the largest stores and sites in the world, one thing remains constant: image matters. You might not be as well known as Lecrae or as doctrinally challenging with your lyrical content as Shai Linne, but this applies to artists at every level. What you have to say may be truly life changing, but not many people will ever give your music a chance if your album/promo designs are flat and lifeless.
Do yourself a favor – take the extra effort to search for a designer who knows your industry, has been where you are, and wants to take the same creativity and passion you put into your music – and give you the promo material that best represents YOU.
To give yourself a chance to be heard, you need to:
- Identify your goals
- Target the right audience
- Have a promo package, and
- Brand yourself!
These are absolutely essential to putting your plan in place and putting yourself out there effectively.
